Stigma around UFO Believers

In the 1950’s there were a rash of UFO sightings. So many in fact; the people petitioned the Federal Government to start investigating them. The government in response started investigations right away. Some reports were made public while others remained classified. I believe the Roswell crash is what started the UFO craze in the 1950’s. The Roswell crash happened in 1947 and while some UFO sightings were taking place from 1947 to 1950; a huge increase in sightings starting in the 50’s. It is my belief that the Roswell crash sparked an interest in aliens and other worlds. It opened the eyes of so many people on the possibilities of what else could be out there. The Air Force recovered a crashed UFO and several humanoid bodies from that Roswell crash. There were many witnesses and some of them even obtained parts of the wreckage.

I believe the stigma surrounding UFOs started after the Roswell crash. Many witnesses were told to keep quiet about what they had seen.  The Air Force who one stated they recovered a crashed ship changed their story and said it was a weather balloon. Something was found that frightened the “powers that be” so much that they ordered a cover up. Since that time the government has been covering up every real UFO sighting. It has led to new generations of people believing that UFOs are not real.

Religion has also helped in this role even if they did not mean too willingly. Most religions in the world say their God or Goddess created the world. If aliens are real and there is UFO’s visiting earth than that would mean that all religions were wrong. So as expected; the religions of the world preached that god created all man, and that we are the center of the universe. At the time, and possible still today, religion was a big thing to a lot of people. So they towed the line and put their belief of aliens behind them. Over the next sixty years the belief in UFO’s became the stigma it is today.

Those who believe in UFO’s were branded the following:

  • Crackpots
  • UFO Nuts
  • Cultists
  • Crazy
  • Weird
  • Unstable

The list could go on for some time. Professionals who spoke out about their belief in aliens jeopardized their carrier. Many committed what is referred to as career suicide by doing so. However, by these people making those sacrifices things started to change. The year is 2017 and seventy years have passed since the Roswell incident. That UFO crash is talked about more now than any other. The truth could not be silenced. Today scientists are starting to embrace the possibility of life on other planets. They have not come out and said it would be intelligent life, but they can’t rule it out either.

There are some big names in history that believe in UFO’s and Stephen Hawking is among them. It is time we stop allowing what other will think of us to influence our beliefs. We are so ready to believe in a mythical, magical, all knowing being, but we are unwilling to believe in something that can be backed with scientific proof. Yes, UFOs and Aliens can be back with scientific proof. There are planets being discovered every day that are in the habitable zone.  Let’s change how we are vied for believing in UFO’s and Aliens. When I first started talking about my belief in aliens I was questioned on my religion. I could have turned tail and ran, kept it to myself and never spoke of it again. However, I answered every question with conviction. I gave scientific facts when I could. I questioned their beliefs. You know what happened? A few of them admitted to me that they also believed in aliens. It only takes one person to admit and speak out for others to follow. Are you going to be that one?
